To Graham (or grandfather as you 'loved' me to call you :) ),

You were like a grandad to me and you made my nanny val very happy, I will never forget my memories of you, especially the way you inspired me and always made me smile again. You were different to anyone I had or have met since and that's why I know that you are very special to me and that I will never forget you.

I will never forget your hippy-like fashion with your pyjama bottems and hats - a very cool grandad!

Lots of love,
Ellen

Graham Gaffney was a man of remarkable contrasts: both a gifted musician with a big ‘on stage’ personality and an enthusiastic teacher keen to develop all his pupils’ talents to the full; hard working yet laid back; artistic and sensitive yet commercially astute; focused on work yet caring and loving in his personal and domestic life; sometimes intensely private, sometimes the life and soul of the party!

During the twenty or so years that I knew him – initially as a colleague in the country music band Aaron’s Beard and latterly in an eclectic mix of other musical projects – I came first to value Graham’s immense competence as a player, always contributing at least 110% in both rehearsal and performance. Then, gradually, a sound friendship developed and I benefited from his kindness and generosity on many occasions.

Graham bore his long-lasting combination of illnesses with great fortitude and courage. But his passing away so young is deeply sad and upsetting for his family and many friends. I, for one, will miss him greatly.

It has been a privilege to work with Graham, an honour to count him a friend and I was particularly proud to be asked to speak at his funeral. Thanks, Val.

8 yrs ago a letter dropped through my door. In it was written to contact graham gaffney as he thought he could provide me with the missing puzzle piece I needed.
Strange I thought. Wondering who this person was, so nervously I called him.
A voice on the other end of the phone asked me a few questions , after I had confirmed what had been asked he asked me if I was sitting down. He then said " I'm your brother"
I nearly fell off my chair. After years of searching we had finally found each other and when we met for the first time , my dreams had come true.
Graham , although we didn't have long together as brother an sister I want u to know that you did fill the missing piece and I loved you from the moment we met
Thank you for being my brother. Love you always and you will always be apert of me and in my heart forever

Graham, You were the best brother that anyone could ever have and i loved you so much. I have watched you play and sing and you were so happy doing what you were so good at and loved. You have had such an eventful and lovely life and enjoyed what u do best. There was a special light in your eyes when you met val, i couldn't have asked for a better sister in law and love her so much too. I am going to miss your smiling face and beautiful eyes dear brother. I'm glad to have known you and know now that you are free from all the pain and distress you have been in. You and mum together, heaven watch out *******

It's been my honour and privilege to have shared the time we had together playing and learning music, no one better to have played along-side.
Thank You Gra'am for all your giving.
                                                I will remember you well.

Graham was the love of my life. He changed me in a way that I would never have thought possible and I will always be grateful for that. Although we had less than seven years together, they represent the best years of my life. He wanted us to get married but it was not to be......

In the last few days he talked very fondly of his life, mentioning family, friends and his many life experiences. He told me that although the illness was intolerable, he was the happiest he had ever been in his life with me, his parents at the bottom of the garden and his many musical friends in the village and surrounds.

Graham I love you and always will. I will miss you so much......

lovingly
